Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru University has joined hands to offer joint programmes under the meta-university scheme.
Both the institutions, which are in discussion for more than a year, have been scheduled to undersign a MoU by December 2013. This will smooth the progress of PhD scholars from either universities letting them receive credits by studying in both.

Nothing like Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia, which declared their first course Master of mathematics education in the 2012-13 academic session, IIT-Delhi and JNU are stick to going on as per the original agreement.
They also talked out to first begin with research collaboration before commencing any academic programme.
As per the director of IIT Delhi, R K Shevgaonkar, the discussion has come to the final stage and formal MoU by both the institutions is to be commenced soon upon the academic course collaboration.
Whereas, IIT Delhi is in attempts to keep the prospective of humanities and social science studies in JNU for scholars researching in these areas. Furthermore, alliance with JNU's biotechnology faculty is also likely to happen.
Prof. Anurag Sharma, dean, academics of IIT, Delhi told that Research is an area of high specialisation and many students are seen opting for research in Humanities. The students of IIT can go to JNU and earn credits by studying in their school of Social Sciences and language. In the similar manner, JNU students belonging to schools of physical and natural sciences, biotechnology etc can also benefit from the programmes offered by IIT.
For subject humanities, students of both the institutions will be allowed to opt for courses they offer. IIT and JNU will plan a way to credit transfer and other classification. However, the degrees shall be given to students from their respective institutions only.
IIT is aimed at making two folding the number of seats for PhDs in the coming 4 to 5 years. Currently, it has about 180 to 190 PhD degrees on offer, which is expected to go up to 400 to 450 year. Presently, 2,101 PhDs are already enrolled.
